Open Frame

The brief for this student project was to design a brand for a local theater in Hide Park, Chicago, with a mission of bringing independent films to a broader audience. I began this project by researching brands with similar missions, comparing the existing independent film theaters around Chicago, and brainstorming ideas for how this brand could come to life.

I created a guiding concept for the brand, which I called “Film for all,” speaking to the idea that independent film should and can be enjoyed by all. I brainstormed a handful of names and landed on “Open Frame,” which speaks to both the frames in film and the idea that cinema can open your mind. Finally, I built a visual identity, wrote copywriting lines, and brought the brand to life through several executions.
